Quality of Life in Dubai Marina

What is the quality of life for residents in Dubai Marina today while large scale construction continues, and what will life be like when (or if) the construction comes to an end? These are more interesting questions for the resident or future resident to ponder than "when will the real estate bubble burst?", which seems to be all the talk among investors.

A survey would be one way to approach the question. Clearly most of the issues below represent concerns and hopes for all Dubai Marina residents. One might see things from a glass half-empty or half-full perspective, but for most the negative will probably outweigh the positive, while the longterm view should be more optimistic.

Quality of life in Dubai Marina today & in the future--what stands out?
(Tick as many statements as you agree with.)

Minus: Lack of community--it's more about buildings than people.
Minus: Ongoing construction is near intolerable, too much noise, dust and
          disorder.

Minus: Too long a wait for expected amenities: a nice promenade,
          shopping, dining, recreational facilities, etc.

Minus: Build quality and building services are at best sub-standard.
Minus: Inadequate transportation options and parking facilities.
Minus: Insufficient public service facilities: parks, mosques
schools, banks, clinics, cleaners, filling stations, etc.

Minus: The Marina is an eyesore; the canal is filthy.
Minus: Living here is too expensive.
Minus: The adjacent power plant has got to go!

Plus: The development is clearly coming along and exciting to witness.
Plus: The highrises and highrise views are stunning.
Plus: My own accommoadtion is top notch.
Plus: I can already live the high life--shopping, dining, sunbathing, etc.
Plus: The road network is excellent or at least well on its way.
Plus: The canal and nearby sea are exhilarating.
Plus: Location, location... it is just an unbeatable Dubai location.
Plus: It offers a safe, comfortable, convenient environment.

Future: In two or three years time most of the minuses will have been
          sorted out.

Future: It will take several more years before life in the Marina becomes
          comfortable.

Future: It will never live up to its promise.
