Municipality to put 90% of services online
Dubai Municipality's new web portal appears to be an interesting concept but still in its early stages as far as functionality and utility goes. No doubt the service will be improved and expanded. This new version appears to lay a foundation on which to build added features. Perhaps the most practical function in the former version was the traffic fine payment facility. The new version offers the option of receiving automatic email posts of event news and circulars on topics of interest to the reader. Registration (which is free) is required to avail this and other services.
Dubai residents wishing to engage with Dubai municipality are encouraged to explore the website. There is probably more to be found as one delves in. Word of any interesting findings are welcome for mention here. Please comment--anyone who uncovers anything new!
What appears to be the original Dubai government site is still functional and in fact seems to be more useful and content-filled than the new site. Perhaps competing offices are vying for top spot. Www.dubai.ae seems to have the edge over www.dm.gov.ae.
In association with Dubai Municipality comes Dubai 3D Browser, a service aimed at allowing one to explore Dubai through interactive 3D maps and images. Also an interesting concept and also quite in its infancy, although having been announced over a half-year ago. A link to latest news on the site offers word about the GITEX event in October 2005. The site is only worth mentioning for the potential it has, like the Dubai gov. site, to offer a useful service to Dubai residents and visitors alike. The Dubai Municipality site is certain to expand and improve, the jury remains out on Dubai 3D Browser.
